ROME PEACE CONFERENCE
TO ADDRESS ESCALATING ARMED CONFLICTS
More armed conflicts rage in the world now than
at any time since World War II. So says the International Red Cross in a report
released in July.
At least 25 countries are torn by bitter internal violence.
Peacekeeping forces and international aid agencies are suffering casualties.
Six Red Cross workers have been slain in recent months as they attempted to
deliver food relief. Far greater numbers of civilians, for the most part
innocent bystanders and often the deliberate targets of terror campaigns, bear
the brunt of the suffering.
Although groups like the UN and NATO appear powerless to bring about an
end or even a temporary cessation to these hostilities, the organizers of the Fatima Peace Conference 2001 believe that a means to achieving world
peace is within our grasp.
The Conference, to be held at the Pontifical University of the Sacred
Heart in Rome, from October 7 to 13, will examine the many ongoing wars,
and other threats to world peace, and hear about a powerful remedy--a
prescription for permanent peace. The solution centres around the message given
to the world by Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. Endorsed by God Himself
through the Miracle of the Sun, witnessed by over 70,000 people, that message
has proven to be the most prophetic of modern times. It now has a "track
record" of astounding predictions which came true: the Miracle of the Sun; the
end of World War I; and "a night illumined by an unknown light", an omen of
World War II.
Sadly, Our Lady's message contained even more dire predictions which
have not yet been fulfilled. We are warned that there will be no peace, wars
and persecutions will increase, and "various nations will be annihilated". To
avoid this global catastrophe, Our Lady requested that the Pope, in union with
all the world's bishops, consecrate Russia to Her Immaculate Heart. If this
were to be done, She promised, Russia will be converted and a period of peace
granted to mankind.
At the Conference, an impressive array of scholars, theologians, and
authors --all dedicated to world peace--will discuss the reasons why Our Lady's
requests have not been heeded, and what must now be done to bring an end to the
terrible conflicts, violence and bloodshed of today's troubled world.
Also on the agenda is a discussion of last year's "release" of the
Third Secret of Fatima, an issue brimming with controversy. Many of the
speakers scheduled to appear question whether the text released by the Vatican
was in fact the full or authentic Secret, as disclosed by Our Lady to Sister
Lucia, the only survivor of the three "child seers". Delegates are expected to
call for a lifting of the Vatican's ban on public statements by Sister Lucia,
so that the nun, now aged 94, can speak out on the issue.
Cardinals, bishops, priests, as well as political and business leaders,
and shapers of public opinion are all invited to attend this historic
gathering. Concerned lay people are also encouraged to participate.
Further details of the Conference, the Message of Our Lady of Fatima,
and the Third Secret, can be found at the Fatima Crusade website:
